STAYING CLOSE TO THE WOMAN YOU LOVE

THIS PAST WEEK: Things are heating up at Home as Our Speaker, Robert Lewis, spoke from real life experience of living with a wife of nearly 40 yrs in Session 4: “STAYING CLOSE TO THE WOMAN YOU LOVE”

Summary: GREAT STUFF! This is HOW to WIN at HOME and with your woman…

I. Paradox principle: “Die a little (to self), live a Lot!”

II. The Forces that Push Couples Apart

a. Everyday CONFLICT

i. The Reality: Every relationship experiences CONFLICT

ii. The question: how do I DEAL with the conflict?

HINT: Resolving conflict is NOT INNATE, it is a LEARNED SKILL

HINT: FEELINGS will follow where you put your MIND! Master your thoughts.

III. The Principle: Conflict can either GROW you as a couple CLOSER together, or it can force you FURTHER APART.

IV. Key Insight: It’s the WISE couple who learns how to resolve conflict QUICKLY and CORRECTLY (Eph. 4:26)

a. Creeping SEPARATENESS – little things mean a lot

i. What a man needs to ask: “DO YOU FEEL CLOSE TO ME?” “Do I feel CLOSE TO YOU?”

ii. Smart Moves a Man can make:

1. Commit to a WINNING strategy – be intentional in resolving conflict

2. WEEKLY escapes that become your COMMUNICATION connectors

3. MONTHY experiences that become your COMPANIONSHIP keepers

4. YEARLY extravaganzas that become your shared MEMORY-MAKERS

iii. Commit to be the one who INITIATES this strategy!

b. Creeping RESENTMENT – Beware!

i. Men beware – do not be embittered (Col 3:19)

ii. What a man needs to ask: “What growing RESENTMENT am I carrying toward my woman?”

V. Smart Moves a man can make

a. Look INSIDE

b. WRITE your resentment down in an I STATEMENT

c. COMMUNICATE your statements in a safe place where you have time to talk

d. Seek a RESOLUTION you both can live with

e. If you can’t, seek mutually agreed upon OUTSIDE HELP
